Candidates receive all kinds of communications throughout their days, and unfortunately, many of them end up being tricks. That's why you want to ensure the InMail messages you send are irresistible treats they can’t ignore!

As we share in our Recruiter Live workshops, leveraging AI assistance to draft your messages is a great place to start. In fact, AI-Assisted Messages see a 44% higher acceptance rate than non-AI messages.

Once you’ve used AI to draft your initial message, follow this checklist to make sure your InMail casts the perfect spell:

🍬 Is your subject line spellbinding?

The subject line is your first impression, so make it short, catchy, and enchanting enough to prevent candidates from scrolling past.

🍬 Is the body short and sweet (like fun-size candy)?

75% of InMails are opened on mobile devices, so keep they body of the message clear and concise with a strong call to action. Aim for 200 words or less so it can be read in about 30 seconds.

🍬Is it personal enough to avoid feeling ghostly?

Mention specific details from the candidate’s profile to show you’ve done your homework. A personalized message that couldn't be sent to anyone else is ultimately what makes an InMail feel like a treat, not a trick.

🎃 Love these tips! 🪄 Here’s an idea to make InMails truly spellbinding😍:
Use AI to shape the structure, but add a human spark that makes it personal. Start with a quick hook that shows genuine interest, for example: “I came across your recent project on data automation, really impressive work!” Then, explain why you reached out, keep the message short and mobile-friendly, and end with a friendly CTA like “Would you be open to a quick chat this week?”

The real magic happens when AI builds the framework and authentic personalization brings it to life! 💬

The point that most consume content on a mobile -priceless. Love the point of keeping it below 200 words or 30 seconds.

Thanks.

Love this! I know that, at least from my perspective, the hardest part about writing anything is getting started. That’s why I also love using AI to build a framework that I can then refine. I’m curious if you have any thoughts about what personal details tend to land well in an InMail? I know you included a reference to past work in your example here; do you have recommendations of other details that tend to land well with candidates?

So glad you found this helpful! I think InMail messages are like trailers for films. You want to include just enough to get your audience interested so that they are motivated to see the movie (or, in your case, join a call😁). No spoilers is another great rule of thumb!

HI @mmcquade  I have attended the Boost Your InMail Performance. It’s a great refresher as well for anyone feeling rusty on their InMail messaging.  I used to create (back in the day before AI assisted search) lengthy Inmails, because I thought I was leaving out important information that the candidate might want to know and therefore make them more interested in connecting with me. Now I keep then concise, a short subject that draws them in to read my message. The body of my message I have a call to action, and it’s made a positive difference.  My messages are around 150 words, so good to know about aiming for 200 or less.

I include profile details to show that I have taken the time to review their profile and why they might be a fit for this role. Even with the AI messaging and bulk messaging, it is still important to me to personalize!

I love to hear that you found Boost Your InMail Performance helpful! It definitely is a balance of ensuring enough information so that the candidate understands why you are reaching out and what you have to offer, but not providing so much that they get overwhelmed or disinterested. I think providing a clear CTA is the perfect approach. You’ve given the candidate a simple path forward without too much noise.
